With no Mountain bike racing basically from now until February, I thought I’d give an update on what I’ve been up to and my preparations leading into Road Nationals at the start of the year. December for myself is purely about building foundations for Road Nationals and the MTB season ahead. It’s my first-time racing in the Elites at Road Nationals and 180km with the best in Australia is daunting but a challenge I’m keen on. If they ever wanted to make a road course to suit an MTBer then Buninyong in Ballart, Vic is the place for it and after mixed results as a U/23 I’m keen for some redemption.
So, my lead up has been largely focused around volume and threshold training. Which means lots of K’s and tired legs. Although I always feel at this time of the year in good weather conditions, you can push that bit extra and it’s a little easier to ‘make hay when the suns shinning’. I used the Tour of Bright earlier this month to kick start things and even snuck out a few days post visiting the new trails at Bright and Falls creek. Would certainly recommend Ned Kelly’s Run in Bright and Flow Town trail at Falls, both brand new and groomed to perfection.
